These chairs are a variation of the pioneering "Purkersdorf" chair. The basic construction (seat, design of the front legs as well as the single-piece, bent wood back legs) correspond to the Purkersdorf chair. The oval panel of the seat back is reminiscent of a bench designed by Koloman Moser (see cat. bel etage, Maastricht 2013, no. 20). Hoffmann also used a similar chair to furnish the children's room in the Palais Stoclet though that had a round seat.
