Description & Technical information
A very fine quality and unusual early 19th century brass mounted desk correspondence box, having a hinged locked lid with two letter slots with brass plaques engraved answered and unanswered respectively with a flush fitting lifting handle to the centre, above a cross veneered frame with brass stringing and pierced brass panels to all four sides, lined in a beige fabric on the inside.
Note: Brass mounted letter boxes are very rare. Most correspondence boxes of this period are made solely of rosewood, sometimes with brass line.
