ADOLF LOOS
FRIEDRICH OTTO SCHMIDT
LARGE OVAL "HABERFELD" TABLE
designed by: Adolf Loos
executed by: Friedrich Otto Schmidt, Vienna, after 1902
The "Haberfeld" table, designed by Adolf Loos, was round and had stabilising struts, which ran to the leg opposite. In the oval variation these struts are placed so that they form a triangle at their intersection. In order to make use of the space "wasted" for aesthetic reasons, Loos later replaced the struts with a solid oval (see also: Salon Kniže, Paris, 1927). Loos used the round table for the first time in 1902 for the residence of Dr. Hugo Haberfeld.
