French artist Louis Hayet was born at Pontoise near Paris and, despite his evident artistic talents, he began his career as a travelling salesman. Eventually joining with the Parisian Neo-Impressionist group of painters centred upon Camille Pissarri, Paul Signac and Georges Seurat, Hayet experimented with colour, texture and light. From his studios at Montmartre and La Frette, Hayet was a prolific artist who produced a diverse body of work always alert to the nature of colour itself.
