Presentation:
Helena Markus has been the forerunner of the passion for Japanese art and culture in Italy. In 1986, she opened her first gallery, Via Montenapoleone, entirely dedicated to this art and moved later to the Via Gesù, in the heart of the Milan fashion district. She studied at the University of Oxford and obtained an M.A. degree in Japanese art and literature. Initially, her focus was on prints but her interest soon broadened to a whole range of other items. She eventually came to specialise in Japanese screens. For the past twenty years she has participated in the most important antique fairs in Italy and abroad and has published a number of books and catalogues on Japanese art.
