Though it may have the reputation of being mainly an antique fair, La Biennale Paris 2017 is not only treating visitors to antiques, but also to a great selection of modern art. One of the most anticipated modern galleries participating in the fair is Damien Boquet Art. Opened in 1997, this Paris-based gallery specialises in avant-garde works dating from Impressionism through the Post-War period.
Among the current offerings of the gallery are masterpieces of Surrealism, Dada and early Abstraction. Highlights include Synthesis of the Forest, a 1943 oil on panel created late in the career of the French Surrealist painter Félix Del Marle; The Brawl of Austerlitz, a small-scale gelatin silver print collage by Marcel Duchamp; and an untitled, exquisite, small scale (30.1 × 22.8 cm.), gouache, ink and paper collage by the American painter Richard Pousette-Dart, widely recognised as the founder of the New York School. Also being offered are works by Sonia Delaunay, Francis Picabia, Gino Severini and others.
