Sotheby’s put down the gavel and set up their stall

13/05/2012

DEALERS have long expressed concern at the way the major salerooms are competing in their market, and with the massive corporate publicity machine available to the auction houses who can blame them.

Sotheby’s have now gone unashamedly retail and from May 19 to 31 celebrate the opening of their brand new Hong Kong gallery at One Pacific Place with a selling exhibition of 20 choice Modern Masters.

Landscapes by the likes of Courbet, Corot, Pissarro and Monet will be offered at prices to over US$8m.

They held their first selling show in Hong Kong in 2010 and this one will move to the Beijing Park Hyatt from June 22 to 25.
