Tribal gathering in Paris now a high spot of the city’s September art season

16/08/2012

INTEREST in tribal art has blossomed, as can be seen by its higher profile at this year’s Biennale. But it is even more apparent at Parcours des Mondes, the international tribal art fair to be held around some 60 galleries in the St. Germain-des-Pres district from September 11 to 16.

This will be the eleventh Parcours des Mondes which year on year grows in popularity until now it is arguably the top tribal show attracting a host of international visitors. Indeed, Parcours des Mondes is the favourite Paris arts event of many and has become a destination in itself.

Little wonder. The ethnographic arts of Africa, Oceania, Asia and the Americas are stunningly displayed not just by the many home dealers, and this is the Paris centre for tribal galleries, but by specialists from throughout Europe and America and even Australia who have borrowed or rented a space in the neighbourhood.

As quality and diversity improve by the year this is a show not miss.
