LONDON is particularly blessed with green spaces but one of the most delightful is among the least known, the Chelsea Physic Garden, founded in 1673 by the Worshipful Society of Apothecaries as a haven for the study of medicinal plants.
It will up its profile from July 10 when London’s oldest botanical garden hosts a major commercial outdoor sculpture exhibition featuring more than 20 leading contemporary artists, among them Hugo Wilson, who has sold at Frieze, and Joe Currie, who has worked with Charles Saatchi.
Called ‘Pertaining to Things Natural’ the show, appropriately for its setting, explores environmental issues and is curated by renowned sculptor David Worthington, who was a stone carver for Anish Kapoor and is Vice President of the Royal British Society of Sculptors.
The Physic Garden is a tranquil three and a half acres off the Royal Hospital Road, just a stroll from Masterpiece.
