This knotted Bidjar rug was probably a vagireh, i.e. a sample produced by a workshop in order to show the colours and pattern for a possible order of a larger size. The asymmetry also indicates this is a reduced specimen that was not intended to be sold on the marketplace. Unless the weavers were careless….
