Description & Technical information

The straight tapered body with bellied base band, stepped domed lid with eagle finial and raised on three scroll feet, the body applied with a pierced decorative band of flowerheads and foliate scrolls, cut-down collet set with three oval polychrome enamel figural scenes and smaller portraits in between, one featuring a young beau bearing posy of flowers, another featuring a young belle wearing pearls to hair and wrist, flanked by two attendants and the third in classical dress with two young ladies, one being 'crowned' with a laurel wreath by a standing male figure, the smaller portraits of ladies showing various hairstyles, set around with six principal cut-down collet emeralds of oval facetted form, embedded in the scroll ground are turquoises and rubies centring the flowerheads, spaced oval rubies alternating turquoise below to a fluted band, the bellied base rim with raised strapwork, anthemion, acanthus and maskheads on a stipple ground, the feet of double C scroll form with beaded detail and gadrooned bun, the cover with gadrooned rim and similarly decorated with strapwork and applied with cut-down collet turquoise and ruby bands, the tapered finial stem rising to a gadrooned knop and ball set with a ruby, an emerald and a turquoise, surmounted by an eagle with wings spread cabochon ruby eyes, gilt interior.
