Description & Technical information

Robert Gemmell Hutchison was a Scottish Naturalist landscape painter. This painting Summer
by the Sea
is one of Hutchison’s best known and celebrated subjects as he often painted children in his Impressionistic, muted landscapes, shown as sitting by the sea, feeding gulls or in this case playing with a toy boat whilst interacting with their environment. The subtle tones of the background draw attention to the figures in the forefront of the picture.
