Description & Technical information

Le Poele dans L’Atelier is a prime example of Venard’s earlier work. Though made before his rejection of figurative painting, there are several forms within this painting that suggest his early interest in the Cubist style. For example, the square frames on the floor and left wall, as well as the use of straight lines throughout the composition. The muted colour palette draws attention to Venard’s use of line, foreshadowing the adoption of a unique post-Cubist style later in his career.
