Description & Technical information

Between 1903 and 1920, Henri Le Sidaner regularly travelled to Nemours, in Ile-de-France. Seduced by the city and its surroundings, he produced several paintings from nature there.
"Maison au soleil sur la rivière, Nemours" is an oil on panel painted in 1919 spring, during the artist's last trip to Nemours, where he stayed at the hôtel de l'Ecu de France. Facing the success reached in the last Salons he participated in, Le Sidaner decided to get back to compositions marked by an Impressionist touch. Settled on the right bank of the Loing, facing the old city, he painted from nature his favorite places at different moments of the day. Our charming painting shows a view of a house along
the river.
Like the painter Paul Signac said in 1902: "Le Sidaner
develops a taste for warm, so and silent atmospheres. He goes on to remove each character as if he was fearing that one human figure could trouble the mysterious silence."
