Description & Technical information

Around the end of the 1970's, and more precisely in 1977 and in 1978, Riopelle produced a hundred of oil paintings and thirty silver point drawings. Forced to work seated because of a knee injury, the artist favoured little formats, executed with the enthusiasm and energy that
characterized him. In this series of small paintings sometimes designed as triptych, one can find reminiscences of the Icebergs series, dated
from the same years: pictorial layer molded with a knife, recurring use of black and white, longitudinal forms sometimes collided... It is notably the case in our "Nouvelles Impressions n°15", in which the
surface is inhabited by wonderful blue and red-tinted turmoils. Here, Riopelle signs a little jewel which magnetic power equals the one of his larger creations.
