Description & Technical information

Conceived in 1886, Auguste Rodin agreed on July 6th 1898 with the Leblanc-Barbedienne foundry an edition contract for "Le Baiser" for 20 years corresponding to the production of our copy.

This latter is mounted on a grey-green marble base decorated with a brass plate where it is written "L'Odéon à Paul Gavault 1er Janvier 1918".

Medium: Bronze with a nuanced brown patina. Cast iron during the artist's lifetime in 1917
Signature: Signed on the right side of the rock: Rodin. Stamp on the left side: F. BARBEDIENNE Fondeur. Letter P inscribed inside.

Dimensions: 25 x 15.9 x 16.9 cm (9⁷/₈ x 6¹/₄ x 6⁵/₈ inches)
Provenance: Offered by the Odéon theater to its director Paul Gavault on January 1st 1918.
Paul Gavault was a French screenwriter and playwright who directed the theater from 1914 to 1921.
Remained in his descendence till today.
