Description & Technical information
This work is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Lélia Pissarro.
The present work is a vibrant painting executed when Rodo lived in Montmartre, Paris. The artist moved to Paris in 1898 and found the Parisian nightlife and the habitués of the cafes, theatres, and cabarets of the area compelling subjects for his work. During this period of time, he met artists such as Kees Van Dongen, Maurice de Vlaminck, and Raoul Dufy.
Ludovic-Rodo Pissarro was the fourth son of Camille Pissarro and began drawing from nature at an early age. The impact of Camille’s art and teaching on Rodo was considerable, and his artistic practice encompassed a wide range of media.
