Rectangular gold box set with two jasper plates. The hinged lid has a decoration on the jasper, representing a stylized papyrus in gold and enamel set with a large ruby mounted in cabochon, stylized flowers whose heart is set with emerald. The frame of the box is decorated with alternating flowers and lotus leaves set with rubies and emeralds on a green enamel background. The corners are set with cabochon rubies. Some wear and tear
This box is characteristic of the Egyptian Revival style appearing from the beginning of the 19th century. The Egyptian revival style developed in the 1860s with the opening of the Suez Canal and the development of archaeology and tourism in the early 20th century.
