on the stern of the boat at the front right CHA[...]U[O?]T[...]. This is not the artist’s signature
but probably the name of the boat. Description on a card on the back of the painting written
by a different hand: Gezeichnet nach der Natur in der Normandie nach dem zerstorten Schlos
Gaillard / III (drawn from nature in Normandy, after the ruined Chateau Gaillard / III).
