Gogodala language Group, Papuan Gulf, PNG, Melanesia.
A very rare and whimsical small head (ganabi) usually worn as an added element on the masks and plastrons of the Gogodala (Gogodara) ceremonial and dance costumes. Another one is illustrated in Zwischen Geisterhaus und Katherdale by Fr. J. Sterr of the SVD in 1950 (see image).
