Anthea Fine Arts

Date 19th century

Origine STOCK, London

Dimension 1 x 1 cm (0³/₈ x 0³/₈ inches)

Each earring features a 4-layered agate cameo depicting a theatrical mask of bearded Silenus with a bow or crown of wine leaves on his forehead. In the background two faces joined together: young and old; young man with another young man. Both cameos appear to be sculpted by the same artist for the same set. The iconography recalls that of the Grylloi, and can be referred to both the theatrical and Dionysian spheres.
