Note: The chair frames have been re-gilded.
The workshop of Thomas Chippendale produced many variants on this type of chair, which was usually supplied as part of a set including settees and sometimes side chairs.
Similar chairs were supplied to Egremont House (now the Naval and Military, or 'In and Out', Club) Piccadily, London,  Petworth House, Sussex, and Burton Constable, Yorkshire. A set commisioned by the Duke of Clarence is now in the Royal Collection at Windsor Castle.
