Gold box or snuffbox decorated with swan and daisies, mid -19th century

Hinged gold and enamel box with rounded edges. The rectangular lid resembles a small symbolic painting depicting a swan perched on a mound in a décor of flowers and leaves in relief. This small frame on an amati background is bordered by small, moving lines which, at the base, take shape inside the painting to become the swan's pedestal. The base depicts a daisy bed punctuated by a series of nails in relief on a sand-blasted background. As with the lid, it is framed by a dotted motif that scrolls up on two sides to emerge into the painting. The symbols used (swan, daisy) make one think of a box expressing feelings of love.
