Literature: Marten Van Mytens came from a family of painters , his father of the same name was of the Dutch School of painting and settled in Stockholm.
His Grandfather also painted portraits.
Marten Van Mytens painted the portraits of many of the nobility and of the crowned heads of Northern Europe, including the Emporor Charles VI, Francis 1st of Germany, Augustus 'The strong', the Empress Marie Therese of Austria and Louis XV of France. He worked variously in Stockholm, Venice Vienna, Paris and Paris and Munich. In 1759 he became a director of the Academy in Vienna where he died in 1770.
