SmithDavidson Gallery, exhibits a dynamic range of leading modern and contemporary art in various mediums. The present gallery’s mission is to acquire and present the work of significant artists whose work has either defined or is expanding the parameters of the visual arts. Founded in 1969 in The Hague, Netherlands, the gallery was originally named after its American founder. Leslie Smith’s son David Smith assumed control in 1990. Starting in 2006, Gabriëlle Davidson became increasingly involved in the gallery’s strategic operations, becoming a partner in 2015. Smith and Davidson moved into the current Amsterdam location in 2007 and later adopted the name SmithDavidson Gallery. A second location was opened in Miami in 2016 in order to have a permanent presence in the city’s international art scene as well in the USA at large where the gallery has participated at fairs including The Armory Show, LA Art Show, Art Miami and EXPO Chicago. Following the pandemic during which SmithDavidson Gallery boosted its online presence, the gallery hosted a pop-up in the Chelsea art district to again promote the gallery’s live programming in an energetically rotating exhibition format. SmithDavidson Gallery nowadays boasts a diverse collection of Modern and Contemporary Art, with specialisations in Post-Impressionism, Post-War Modernism, Contemporary Photography, Australian First Nations Art as well as actively promoting excitingly unique mid-career international artists on the international stage. Avid collectors of Australian First Nations Art since 2006, over the past two decades David Smith & Gabriëlle Davidson have become renowned experts in Australian Art and established SmithDavidson Gallery internationally as one of the leading dealers in this unique art movement. Globally recognized for its deeply rooted artistic expression, Australian First Nations Art represents one of the oldest continuous cultural traditions on Earth. SmithDavidson Gallery upholds strong ethical standards in acquiring and presenting works and is committed to transparency. A 3% resale royalty is applied to all gallery sales of Australian First Nations artworks. These proceeds directly support a national foundation dedicated to the welfare of First Nations artists, their families, and communities.
