Description & Technical information
Rectangular writing supplies case with a slightly tapered base and gold mounting. The gold panels of the case are decorated with thin, parallel stripes and overlaid with translucent, lavender blue enamel. A button serves to open the hinged lid which bears the inscription, Souvenir d’Amitié (Souvenir of Friendship). The body of the case features two oval medallions On one side is a monogram accented with diamonds, and on the other side, a scene of a dog and a dove near an altar, symbolizing Love and Faithfulness. The two medallions leave a starburst pattern visible, and they are surrounded with mother-of-pearl framed with gold. The delicate gold cage mounting is intricately worked and is embellished with alternating opaque white enamel beads and gold stars. The interior of the case contains writing supplies including an ivory tablet with a gold rivet, a crayon, and a pair of gold and steel scissors.
