Description & Technical information
A micromosaic panel, rectangular shape which depicts a hunting scene, in which three beagles are attacking a stag which is trying to escape, all in a landscape setting. The mircomosaic is surrounded by a gold scrolling foliage on mat background frame. A blue enamel line on gold completes the composition. This scene is inspired by the compositions of the painter P.Vallati active in the first half of the 19th century. This composition was taken up by the artists of the Vatican workshop: Antonio Aguatti around 1800. This design was then taken over by Domenico Moglia (1780-1862) at the beginning of the 19th century.
The box is characteristic of items brought back during the "grand tour" 'made by wealthy Europeans in the late 18th and early 19th century.
The frame: L:3.46in. ( 8,8 cm) / l:2.55in. (6,5 cm).
The micromosaic: L: 2.95in.(7,51 cm) / l: 1.85in. (4,7 cm).
