In Anatolia Nawmal is a general term for various textiles. In western Anatolia they are called ortu and cirpi in the area of Konya. They were produced till the middle of the 20th century when they were replaced by machine-made cloth. Nawmals were woven in narrow stripes which were put together according to the necessities.
