Suzani means ‘needle’ in Farsi but it is the name used for the needlework from Uzbekistan  that was part of the dowry.
On the European market they were very popular about one century ago.
The silk thread was embroidered on narrow patches of silk or linen. The pattern was drawn with a pencil and covered with the silk embroideries. When the needlework was ready the patches were sewn together. They would show that the young girls in the family would be perfect and skilled housewives.
