Description & Technical information
Designed by: Eduard Josef Wimmer-Wisgrill, Vienna, around 1912
Executed by: Wilhelm & Johann Jonasch, Vienna, for the Wiener Werkstätte
The desk was part of the complete furnishings for the Hora family home in Vienna’s 9th district. In order to liberate the front from the usual drawer framing, the sidewalls of the body and the drawers themselves were mitred. I have never seen this unusual and very time-consuming procedure before. It gives the piece a touching simplicity.
