Description & Technical information

Exceptional rectangular box or snuff box in four-tone gold. The hinged lid in fine relief has an astonishing composition: the central panel in amati gold is decorated with symmetrical motifs of foliage and flowers. This panel is framed by a frieze of foliage, flowers and baskets of fruits in green, pink and white gold on amati gold background. The box is decorated with the same decoration on gold amati background and in the angles of acanthus leaves. The bottom of the snuffbox presents fine geometric guilloché patterns with in the angles some pansy. This composition is characteristic of the Restoration style or develops a style more amiable than that of the Empire. Palmettes, foliage and the rosettes develop in an ostentatious and repetitive manner in the decorative arts.
