J. & W. Cary were one of the leading globe manufatureres in 18th century England, producing a wide range of designs available in at least three sizes, and sometimes more. The price list in their 1828 advertisement gives an indication of the variety on offer. The 21-inch globe was the largestsize they produced as stock.
The papers on the globe and the horizon ring have survived in outstanding condition.
