Description & Technical information

A gold mounted circular box with various plates of porphyry, agate and hard stones. The hinged lid and base of the snuffbox are decorated with plates of colored porphyry. The side presents a collection of agate of different colors ordered according to an alternation of brown and green.
This snuffbox is characterized by the German production of the late 18th century mainly in Dresden. Indeed, the box testifies to the curiosity of the 18th century for the sciences of nature especially for mineralogy. This enthusiasm was illustrated by the creations of the goldsmith Neuber that this snuffbox is inspired by.
A few small cracks on the stones.

3rd rooster: 1798-1809.
Head of man 85 for the former Parisian department under the French Revolution.
Eagle head. 18 carat gold.
Goldsmith’s mark illegible.
