Description & Technical information

The base and lid each formed of a brown banded agate panel shaded lighter and darker, the cover fluted as a stylised scallop and spaced by three inlaid gold bands, each with a bloodstone rib, the gold chased and engraved with foliate, floral and shell decoration on a stipple ground, reeded gold rim and bow thumbpiece with scallop detail, the sides in gold and similarly decorated with a band of flowerheads, acanthus, rocaille like shell detail and diaper-type cells all on a stipple ground, the agate base with bevelled edges and a flat base, slightly rounded within.
