Description & Technical information

The steel helmet is depicted with a zigzag band of floral decoration in gold overlay which connects to the panelled design above it. On the top of the helmet is one spike and two plume holders. There is a sliding nose guard to the front. The chainmail is decorated with riveted links with painted gold overlay creating a zigzag pattern. There is a delicate bunch of threaded tassels suspended down from each side of the helmet.
Similar Indian kulah khuds can be found in The Wallace Collection, London, The National Museum, New Delhi, and The Victoria and Albert Museum, London, see Accession Number 118A-1852 for a helmet with panelled decoration (Helmet, Lahore, circa 1850).
