Literature: The technique of bronze casting enabled the Bronze Age craftsman to develop a broad range of forms. Great pleasure was taken in the spiral motif during this period and it has been determined that this particular form of ornamentation applied to bronze and other objects originated in the eastern Mediterranean region.
Arm rings such as this were used as jewellery in the European Bronze Age, and may also have functioned as ‘special purpose’ or ritual currency. Found mostly in grave contexts, it is certain that these magnificent creations in both bronze and precious metals identify persons of high rank.
