Polychrome Floral Iznik Dish
An Iznik dish decorated with a large sprig of cobalt blue hyacinths, three blue tulips, two bole red roses with blue pistils, and two red honeysuckles, red prunus blossoms, and viridian green leaves, outlined in black. A white serpentine line divides the rim into cartouches, with those above the line painted green and those below painted blue. Half blossoms with alternately green and blue centres are held in the cartouches.
A dish with similar rim and the quatre fleurs motif at the centre is held in the British Museum, London (accession no. 1878,1230.498) and is dated to 1625-30. A dish dating to the 17th century in the Louvre, Paris (accession no. R 17) is decorated similarly with flowers growing from grassy tuft, including blue tulips with red dots and a red rose with a blue centre.
